Orthopedic Surgery
Cascade Veterinary Hospital takes a special interest in orthopedic surgery for both small and large animals. Our skilled veterinarians can repair knee joints, hips, tendon lacerations, ligament tears and even some spinal issues. The veterinarians regularly attend national conferences and classes to learn the latest orthopedic techniques and treatments.
One of the most common injuries to the knee of animals is tearing of the cranial cruciate ligament (CCL). This ligament is similar to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in humans. There are two cruciate ligaments inside the knee: the cranial cruciate ligament and caudal cruciate ligament. These ligaments cross over each other inside the middle of the knee. In larger dogs especially, immediate surgery is needed to ensure quick healing and prevention of joint damage.
There are several surgical techniques our veterinarians use to repair your pet's knee ligaments. Each poses different recovery times and results. Your veterinarian will guide you through the decision-making process to determine which procedure provides your dog with the best chance of full recovery.
